Contrairement à d'autres consoles, le chipset sonore de la Megadrive avait une identité très marquée. Ceux qui (ont passé des heures sur la 16 bits de Sega sauront reconnaître le son bien particulier de la Megadrive : un son très net (agressif selon certains) contrasté, profond et un timbre "électronique" assumé.
