La powerpop est un genre méconnu, voire sous-estimé. Il faut dire que les looks ont parfois mal vieilli et que musicalement le coté "rentre-dedans" de certains morceaux peut rebuter les esthètes les plus sensibles. Mais quand on prend la peine de creuser on se rend compte que la powerpop arrive parfaitement à mélanger l'énergie du rock avec les mélodies pop. Fort de ses 40 ans d’existence elle a produit quelques groupes majeurs, un paquet de formations cultes, et aussi pas mal d'obscurité. Un Top 20 constitué des groupes essentiels, avec forcément quelques choix partiaux.
