Si Las Vegas n'existait pas, Los Angeles serait peut-être la capitale du vice, mais c'est surtout la ville de tous les excès, tout et son contraire. Les plages bondées de jolies filles blondes aux seins refaits, les clubs remplis de hipsters lookés, les bars chicos plein de nantis... Le fric, le freak, le talent, l'apparence, voilà en quelques mots Los Angeles, ce paradis des industries du rêve, qui fabrique chaque année des films, de la musique pour faire oublier un quotidien parfois bien ennuyeux... Dans les années 60, LA et San Francisco se tiraient la bourre, Frisco avait l'authenticité pour elle, mais LA avait plus d'un atout dans sa manche, comme en témoigne cette sélection de 20 morceaux made in LA (et ses environs) abordant aussi bien le folk rock, le garage, la sunshine pop que les expériences plus sauvages d'un Captain Beefheart ou un Zappa, sans oublier le metissage jazz d'un Spirit. Bref Los Angeles dans les années 60 était un des temples, si ce n'est LE temple de la musique pop.
